Inspired by her mother’s example and fueled by personal experience as a caregiver, Shirl Parnell founded Coffee Tea and Me (CTAM) in 2014, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Baltimore, Maryland, dedicated to uplifting caregivers. Her vision was clear from the start: to create a space where caregivers—often unseen and overburdened—could be supported, celebrated, and reminded they are not alone.
" Building a supportive foundation for caregivers has been challenging over the years, yet it remains rewarding. I have learned to 'trust in the Lord with your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all yours ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight.' ” Prov 3:5-6
I truly appreciate Coffee Tea and Me for fostering a strong sense of community and support among caregivers. CTAM resources have significantly enhanced my daily life, equipping me with valuable tools to be a more effective caregiver. It's comforting to know that I have a trusted partner in navigating this rewarding yet challenging journey.
I have been with CTAM for six years. I joined to support caregivers despite struggling with my own identity as a caregiver and sought an outlet for myself. I am motivated by the joy and appreciation I see from those helped by Coffee Tea and Me. To the CTAM members, volunteers, and sponsors, THANK YOU for all your support.
I met Ms. Shirl while working as a community health worker. Our discussions about her purpose to support caregivers opened my heart to their needs and I wanted to assist her in this important work in Baltimore City. Now finding myself in the caregiver role , I deeply appreciate her support, knowledge and encouragement.
